The Ghana-Pantang Project

Foreword by Michael Brennan

Following two episodes of Volunteering as a Teacher of Mental Health Nursing at Pantang Hospital, a sprawling mental health facility on the outskirts of Accra in Ghana, I decided to raise funds for the renewal and refurbishment of Ward 3, the large Admission Ward at Pantang. Neglect and under-resourcing of mental health services in Ghana have led to a serious decline in the quality and standard of in-patient services. After fund-raising and donating over £16,000 to the hospital, the renovation of Ward 3 is now complete.

The You Tube based Slide Show provided at the link below celebrates the re-opening of the ward on Friday 3rd March 2017 as well as marking the magnificent contribution of the parishioners of SS John Cantius and Nicholas Parish in Broxburn. More than half of the £16,000 raised was accumulated from two Lenten Appeals, large donations from St Nicholas Primary School and from the local SVDP together with many individual donations from very generous parishioners.
